Note: Wu, Xun, The Illiterate School Founder
In the late Qing dynasty, there was a beggar named Wu, Xun living
in Tangyi County, Shandong Province, China. His father passed away
when he was three. Living in extreme poverty, he survived by begging
in his neighborhood. Unfortunately, as he reached the age of seven,
his mother passed away as well and he was totally left alone by
himself.
Wu, Xun was illiterate; he determined to found a school so the poor
people could have an opportunity to be educated. He collected all
the money he got from begging years by years. Then finally it was
enough for him to set up a school at his hometown Liulin. Wu, Xun
gave high respect to teachers and also cared about the study of
all the pupils. Whenever there were teachers or students not doing
their best, he kneed and begged them to put into more effort. As
a result, not only teachers and students were touched by his spirit
but the locals were moved and willing to help spontaneously in school
founding. At the end, he established three schools and many kids
in poverty benefited from his act.
